Author Guidelines

Terms and Procedures for publications in Jazan University Journal for Human Sciences.

First: General Rules:

  1. The research topic must be in one of the fields of human sciences, written in Arabic or in English.
  2. The subject matter of the research should be characterized by modernity and originality.
  3. The research must be free of doctrinal and ideological violations.
  4. The research must be free of linguistic and grammatical errors.
  5. The researcher(s) must adhere to the ethics of scientific research and intellectual property rights.
  6. The research must not have been previously published, and if it is proven otherwise, the Journal has the right to take the legal action.
  7. The research paper should not include the name of the researcher(s) or any indication that might reveal their identity. The phrase "researcher" or “researchers” can be used instead.
  8. The total percentage of citations in the research should not exceed 20%, except for Quranic Verses and Prophetic Hadiths.
  9. The opinions expressed in the research do not necessarily reflect the opinion of the Journal, but of the researcher only. The researcher bears the full responsibility for the soundness of information and the accuracy of conclusions.
  10. The researcher should adhere to the publishing standards and guidelines set by the Journal.
  11. The application must be completed within two weeks from its initiation. Those incomplete applications will be cancelled after two weeks’ time of their initiation.
  12. The researcher(s) must not upload more than one application for the same research topic. Repeated applications will be discarded.

Second: Technical Rules / Guidelines: layout and editing of the research paper should observe the following:

  1. The cover page of the final research manuscript should include (the title of the research, the name of the researcher(s) both in Arabic and English, their details of affiliation and correspondence, ORCID account). Texts should be formatted according to the Journal’s publication template, where all pages follow the two-column style. Click here to download.
  2. The submitted research paper should not exceed (40) pages, including Arabic and English abstracts and references.
  3. The submitted research paper should include two abstracts: one in Arabic and the other in English (including the research problem or its questions, its objectives, its methodology, main results and recommendations), in which the word count in each one should not exceed (250) words, followed by no more than 5 keywords.
  4. The dimensions of all page margins (upper, lower, right, and left) are 1.5 cm, and the distance between lines and paragraphs is 1.5 cm.
  5. The type of font used in texts/body in the Arabic research papers should be (Simplified Arabic) with a font size of 14 points, while in English it should be (New Times Roman) with a font size of 12 points, and headings are in bold.
  6. The type of font used in tables, figures and footnotes in Arabic research papers should be (Simplified Arabic) of 12-point font size, while English papers should be (New Times Roman) of 10-point font size, and their headings are bold. Quranic Verses should be written according to the standards of King Fahad Complex for the Printing of the Holy Qur’an.
  7. Arabic numbers (1,2,3, ...etc.) must be used in research papers in both Arabic and English.
  8. Page numbering of the research paper should be in the center bottom of the pages, starting from the abstract page until the last page of references.
  9. References and sources are documented, both in citation and reference documentation, according to the American Psychological Association (APA 7th edition), except for research papers in Sharia’ah studies and Arabic language which need to use footnotes in research, the Modern Language Association (MLA) style should be adopted.
  10. Footnotes are written at the bottom of every page; when using footnotes in Sharia’ah studies and Arabic language, the footnotes should be placed at the bottom of each page with numbers between parentheses.

Third: Publishing Procedures:

  1. Create an account on the Journal’s electronic publishing platform (OJS).
  2. Fill in all the information required to create a profile on the electronic publishing platform, including the attachment of some documents.
  3. Submit a request for publication on the Journal’s OJS, making sure that the submitted research paper meets the standards and guidelines for publications in the Journal.
  4. Attach a copy of the research manuscript in Word (docx) and in a pdf-format, which should not include details of the researcher(s) including names, academic rank, and affiliation.
  5. Sign electronically the Journal’s declaration form which states that the research has not previously published, and is not submitted for publication elsewhere until the arbitration procedures are completed.  Click here to download.
  6. The submitted research paper will be sent to two specialized referees for evaluation. If it is not accepted by one of the referees, the journal will take the action it deems appropriate.
  7. Once the referees’ reports are received, they will be sent to the researcher(s) to make the required amendments.
  8. The researcher will be given two weeks to make the amendments, and then the amended copy must be re-uploaded including the researcher(s) details (names and affiliation).

Fourth: Copyright of the Journal and the researcher(s)

  1. The editorial board has the right to the initial check of the research and to decide its validity to be either peer-reviewed or rejected.
  2. The researcher does not have the right to withdraw the submitted research paper after passing the initial review.
  3. Research submitted for publication must be original and not previously published elsewhere.
  4. Once a research paper is accepted for publication in the Journal, publication copyright passes from the author to the Journal, and it cannot be published elsewhere either in print or electronically unless a written permission from the Journal’s Editor-in-Chief is obtained.
  5. Publishing accepted papers will be prioritized based on the date they are submitted to the Journal.
  6. The researcher is informed about the referees’ decision of rejection.
  7. When the research is accepted for publication, a letter of acceptance will be sent to the researcher.

Submission Preparation Checklist

  • The submitted research paper complies with the rules of publication in Jazan University journal for Human sciences.
  • The submitted research paper must not have been published or submitted to another publication party.
  • The researcher is not allowed to withdraw their research after the journal has started the peer-reviewing procedures.
  • The researcher is committed to making the amendments contained in the report of the reviewers and editorial board report.
  • Once a research paper is accepted for publication in the journal, ownership of publication passes from the author to the journal. The author shall does not have the right to republish their accepted research in any other publishing medium, whether printed or electronic, except with written permission of the editor-in-chief of the journal.
