Abstract

This paper aims to study and analyze the economic structure of Jazan region in order to identify and determine the development potentials in terms of economic activities and their comparative and competitive advantages during the period of 1992 (1431h) and 2010 (1431h). The analysis revealed that, the economic structure of Jazan region characterized by strong and diversified economy, attracting more job and investment opportunities. Economic activities such as trade, education and public administration are leading sectors in terms of job and investment attractions. These three basic sectors accounted for more than 68% of total new job in the region during the last twenty years. The analysis also revealed that, the region enjoyed massive spatial and nature development potentials especially in manufacturing and tourism activities. These two economic activities are considered as the most promising job and investment opportunities in the near future. One would encourage the private sector through different development policies and incentive programs to adopt these opportunities in the region.
