Abstract

Praise be to Allah for all His countless grace and favours on His creatures. Among His favours is the fact that He helped and granted me the ability to do this research on the ransom/value of money (in Arabic: "Dia") given (or has to pay) to the Muslim female or her family in case of her injury (in one of her body parts) including death, compared to the one the male receives or has to pay. This research is comprised of an introduction, three areas of research, and a conclusion. In the Introduction, I explained my personal methodology of research, the reason for choosing this particular subject, the prior research data found on the ransom obtained by a female or male in Islam, and the plan of this research as well. The first area of research is about the meaning of the term "Dia", ransom or value of money: the linguistic meaning and the one in Islamic law. The second area of research is the ransom given in case of a death of a female compared to a death of a male in Islam; In this part I mentioned the opinions of both the late and contemporary Muslim scholars, with the proofs and rational of every scholar and I stressed the ones I favoured based on my personal critical opinion after evaluating the scholar's opinion and rational. And the third and last area of research is about the ransom given to a Muslim female in case someone injured one of her body part, and I mentioned the opinions of the Muslim scholars and their rational and again I stressed the opinions of the ones I favoured, after a critical evaluation. I then finished with a conclusion where I mentioned the main findings and suggestions.
