Abstract

This paper entitled is “Types and Connotations of Lā (No/Not) in The Sahih Hadith QudsiBy Sheikh Zakaria Amirat: An Analytic Language Study”. Lā (no/not) is a negative particle that directly affects denotation and connotation of Arabic texts, as connotation may vary according to scholars’ different interpretations of each particle. It is well-known that interpreters differed as to interpretation and analysis of hadith due to the different connotations of particles, which, in turn, made them differ as to the rules derived from hadith since such rules are understood by the connotation conveyed by the particles contained in the hadith corpus. Thus, each scholar interpreted hadith based upon his understanding of particles. The study addresses the hadith qudsi texts, especially those included in The Sahih (Authentic) Hadith Qudsi, by Sheikh Zakaria Amirat, to highlight the types of (lā) used in these hadiths and the rules derives therefrom, indicating the connotation of each type as possible.
