This study aims to uncover the underlying causes of food waste in Saudi society, analyze its dimensions, and explore possible solutions to mitigate the phenomenon through the application of Islamic economic principles. The descriptive-analytical method was employed, and the study reached several key findings. Chief among them is that irrational consumer behavior constitutes a primary driver of food waste, in addition to certain cultural factors, misguided social practices, and the absence of comprehensive legislation regulating waste reduction. The principles of Islamic economics were found to provide effective remedies that could significantly contribute to limiting food waste. The study also revealed that the high level of food waste in Saudi society represents a drain on economic resources, despite substantial efforts exerted by governmental and non-governmental entities through awareness programs and food preservation initiatives. Based on these findings, the study offers several recommendations, most notably: intensifying awareness campaigns that highlight the risks of food waste, and supporting food preservation associations and initiatives aimed at collecting surplus food and redistributing it to those in need.
