Abstract

This research aims to provide a critical reading of the thought of Yusuf al- Khal through approaching his concept of modernity as it seems to him to be a modern and comprehensive vision of reality under which human existence and art fits into. The present study highlights salient features of this concept and its features and its basic elements. It also seeks to identify the most important intellectual and philosophical beliefs that shape it. Additionally, it traces its intellectual roots and its different cultural and critical references. Moreover the study seeks to shed light on a number of problems, challenges and fantasies of modernity as reflected in the attitude of the past, and the nature of the association with time. The study finally reveals the gaps of this concept, and in particular: in his vision of the nature of modernity's relationship with reality, and in his attitude of the Western culture (specifically Anglo-American) taking it the most complete form of modernity.
