The Relationship Between Auditory Memory Capacity, Gender and Listening Comprehension Among a Sample Of Pupils With Learning Disabilities

Abstract

This study aimed at identifying the role of the capacity of the auditory memory and gender in listening comprehension among a sample of (60) male and female elementary pupils. The sample was chosen randomly. To achieve the aims of the study, the auditory capacity test-word chains and another test of measuring listening comprehension were used. The results showed significant statistical differences between the means of the pupils' performance in the auditory capacity test and their performance in the listening comprehension test due to gender in favor of the female pupils. The results also revealed that listening comprehension is influenced by the capacity of the auditory memory. Furthermore, the results pointed out that the female pupils outperformed the male pupils in listening comprehension. The results didn't show any effect of the interaction between the variables of the auditory memory capacity and gender on listening comprehension.
