The Engagement Ring - A comparative jurisprudential study
Keywords:
Engagement, Proposal, Ring, Engagement Ring, MarriageAbstract
The "engagement ring" is one of the customs that many people have been afflicted with in this era. Scholars of our time have differed significantly in their judgments about it. Given the issue’s relevance to the Sunnah of marriage, which was prescribed to preserve the necessity of progeny, and the presence of a number of issues related to it; Thus, I found it appropriate to research it under the title: "The Engagement Ring: A Comparative Jurisprudential Study."
In this study,
I addressed the concept of the engagement ring and examined the views of jurists on its most important rulings.
I reached several conclusions, among the most notable: Imitating non-Muslims is not of a single degree; some forms of it may lead to disbelief, while others are merely disliked. The engagement ring falls into the latter category, with certain conditions: it should not be worn with corrupt beliefs, it should not be made of gold for men, and wearing rings made of iron is discouraged for both genders. If the engagement is broken off, the man has the right to reclaim the ring if the disengagement was initiated by the fiancée. And Allah knows best.
