Abstract

This study aims to clarify the aesthetics of place in the novel “Years of Love and Sin” by Maqbool Al-Alawi, in which the place formed an important element, and the writer was able, through his experience with the place, to shed light on his social, intellectual and cultural positions. The study included an introduction, preface, two sections, and a conclusion. The introduction was like a theoretical cradle through which I addressed the definition of the novelist, in addition to defining the features of the novel, and defining the concept of the fictional place and its importance, The aesthetics of place were demonstrated through applied models in the two topics: patterns of place and mechanisms for employing place.

The study concluded with its most important results. Among them: it showed the diversity of places and what they suggest, the internal conflict of the novel’s hero, and revealed his feelings towards the place. The aesthetics of the natural place were also revealed by adding human features to the place and sharing his worries and sorrows with the hero.
