Centers of Research Excellence as a Model for Developing Scientific Research in Egyptian Universities: A Suggested Perspective

Abstract

Many researches clarified the Egyptian universities need to establish and spread centers of research excellence as a starting point to enter the knowledge age and to develop the Egyptian scientific research. The present study attempted through using descriptive method to diagnose the rarlity of Egyptian scientific research, to analyze the features of excellence centers and their goals, to identify obstacles and problems facing Egyptian excellence centers and to analyze some global experiences of establishing excellence centers as: Pan-Texas University, Ontario University, Dokuz Eylul University, Saudian Universities. The study reached a vision of establishing the centers of research excellence in Egyptian Universities in light of the nature of those centers, their features and learned lessons of the experiences of other countries, the analysis of weakness points, strength points, opportunities and threatens in Egyptian excellence centers. This prespective included the principles, basics, philosophy, aims, and means of achievement and finally, the probable difficulties and barriers and how to overcome them.
