The Effectiveness of a Training Program in Developing Social Skills and Improving Friendship Quality Level among a sample of University Youth

Abstract

The current research aimed at providing a training program for a sample of university youth to develop their social skills and improve their friendship quality. The sample of the current research consisted of 40 male university students studying at Faculty of Education Jazan University aged between 21and 22 years with an age average of 21.4 years and a standard deviation of 1.584. The researcher used the scale of social, economic and cultural level as an adjusting tool. Besides, the scale of social skills and the scale of friendship quality among university youth (prepared by the researcher) were used as measurement took. Results indicated that there is a statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores attained by the experimental group and those of the control group in the post measurement of social skills level in favor of the experimental group. In addition, there is a statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores attained by the experimental group in the pre and post measurements of social skills level in favor of the post measurement. However, There is no statistically significant difference between the mean scores attained by the experimental group in the post and sequential measurements of social skills level. Results also indicated that there is a statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores attained by the experimental group and those of the control group in the post measurement of friendship quality level in favor of the experimental group. Additionally, there is a statistically significant difference at (0.01) level between the mean scores attained by the experimental group in the pre and post measurements of friendship quality level in favor of the post measurement. However, There is no statistically significant difference between the mean scores attained by the experimental group in the post and sequential measurements of friendship quality level.
