The effectiveness of Program based on the Montessori approach to Practical life and the Art of Origami to development of Fine Motor Skills in children with moderate intellectual disabilities

Abstract The current research aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a program based on the Montessori curriculum for practical life and the art of origami in the development of fine motor skills among people with moderate intellectual disabilities. The study sample consisted of 10 students with moderate intellectual disabilities in the schools of integration in the governorate of Majma'a. They were divided equally into experimental and control groups. The two groups were homogenized in the chronological age, IQ, economic and social level and fine motor skills. As for the study tools, Mother follow-up form, fine motor skills scale and training program. The results found that the training program was effective in developing fine motor skills among the students of the experimental group. The study recommended the inclusion of the Montessori curriculum for practical life and the art of origami in the training and rehabilitation programs to deal with the lack of fine motor skills among the moderate intellectual disabilities.
