Attitudes of Saudi Males Toward High Fertility Levels and High Family Size (A Study in Qassim, Saudi Arabia)

This study aims at investigating the attitudes of Saudi men towards high fertility levels and high family size in Qassim region, and the impact of a number of determinants and social and demographic features on the attitudes of the study population. Data collection is conducted via a random sample of faculty and personnel at Qassim University, and fertility attitude scale is used. The findings of the study can be summarized in that the Saudi man has high positive attitudes towards high fertility levels and high family size in line with the general trend of high fertility levels in Saudi Arabia. However, the study does not show considerable impact of age, social status, income, type of profession on fertility levels; meantime it shows limited impact of education level, social background, and family type in which the participants are brought up. Recommendations of the study are outlined as follows: a review of population policies in the Saudi society should be conducted, population data should be available to researchers, research in this area should be intensified.
