Abstract

The purpose of the study was to investigate the effectiveness of the eighth summer enrichment program on developing critical thinking skills in a sample of 44 gifted students, chosen primarily from different school districts in Saudi Arabia. The program was sponsored by King Abdulalaziz and His Companions Foundation for the Giftedness and Creativity and was held at King Khalid University. Using a quasi-experimental, single-group design. The study found that there was no statistically significant differences between the average pre and post performance of the group attributable to the program. The students achieved only a medium level of critical thinking. Among specific critical thinking skills. the most used was extraction of information, followed by interpretation, awareness of assumptions, evaluation of discussions, and, finally, inference.
